Galapagos https://gordonhallberg.com/blog/2023/1/galapagos Galapagos Trip—January 2023. This was a BIG trip for us and so memorable. Our trip began in Quinto the capitol of Ecuador for a few days before the separate 1000 mile flight to the Galapagos Islands. We visited nine of the volcanic islands of Galapagos for a busy and very active tour of the Southern Loop. Days were full of trips on the Celebrity Xpedition ship including kayak rowing, snorkeling and Zodiac rides to see the impressive scenery and big variety of exotic wildlife of Galapagos. My Gallery photos show some of the many sea lions, iguanas, birds, sea turtles and tortoises we saw.

It was wonderful to hear the progress. The Xiong family started things out with a trio version of the Christmas song, "O Come Little Children," and here's a picture of the last of Mark's pieces, a duet with his brother, Ethan. Their sister, Xin, is watching them on the left. To check out all the photos and videos click on photo below.  Mark and EthanMark and Ethan

Bosque Bike Path https://gordonhallberg.com/blog/2020/7/bosque-bike-path BosqueBosqueBike path parallel to the Rio Grande. We live next to a particularly beautiful Bike Path along the Rio Grande River. On the days I don't ride the path I often walk with my camera and try to catch the wide variety of bikes and riders there. The Covid Pandemic brought an even wider variety of bikers and also occasioned a couple of photo courses for me that encouraged some photo storytelling. Preparing for the courses I met Pat and Judy, Michael and Zoie the Schnauzer, and Raymond--photos included.

BSO Conductors https://gordonhallberg.com/blog/2019/9/bso-conductors Conductors in Rehearsal (1971-1983)

Photos by Gordon Hallberg

Leonard BernsteinLeonard Bernstein As Bass Trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) from 1971-1983 I sat in a chair only a few feet from the many conductors of the Boston Symphony. Over my years with the Boston Symphony I had the pleasure of playing with and photographing some of the finest conductors in the world.

Of course, I was not free to photograph in concerts only rehearsals. But, in so many ways, conductors are more interesting in rehearsals than in concerts—their movements are more communicative and often very dramatic.

Rehearsal lighting was not as bright as in concerts, which made it necessary to “push” the film explaining the visible grain in the photos.

Photos have previously been exhibited at Symphony Hall, Boston and other locations in Massachusetts.

Arthur Meyerson Workshop https://gordonhallberg.com/blog/2019/3/arthur-meyerson-workshop I attended a Photographic Workshop at the famous Santa Fe Workshops. Arthur Meyerson, my instructor, is an acclaimed photographer and teacher particularly famous in the area of color photography. In the weeklong session we class members were treated to Meyerson's "Photography Tools"--concepts that guided his own photography over the years. His teaching illustrated the tools in his own photos as well as demonstrating their presence or non-presence in our class assignments. My photos are represented in my "Meyerson Workshop" gallery. One of my location discoveries was the Dwan Light Sanctuary near Las Vegas, NM. It is a very unusual and picturesque structure with large light prisms built into the walls projecting color spectrums on the interior walls. Meyerson Workshop-14Meyerson Workshop-14Light Spectrum

Dragon Light Festival https://gordonhallberg.com/blog/2018/10/dragon-light-festival The Dragon Lights Festival in Albuquerque features fully illuminated silk lanterns created in China assembled and displayed here in Albuquerque from October to December.  The many colorful lanterns, internally lit, are in the shapes of animals and exotic shapes which produce a fantasy land of night-time color. A 40 foot long Dragon lantern is featured. There are also presentations of traditional Chinese stage arts like face changing, Chinese Yo-Yo, etc.

Balloon Fiesta https://gordonhallberg.com/blog/2018/10/balloon-fiesta Albuquerque Balloon Festival happens every year the first week in October. As a first time visiter, I attended 3 times because it was such a rich photographic possibility. About 500 balloons make a mass ascent at daybreak. It makes it a bit of a challenge to face the traffic and get there in time, but the action, colors, special shapes and community spirit make it all worthwhile. Canon camera company is a major sponsor—its not hard to realize why with all the photos taken.

Carlsbad Caverns https://gordonhallberg.com/blog/2018/6/carlsbad-caverns Carlsbad Caverns is about 4.5 hours South of Albuquerque, and is a world famous site. Without apology for this overused term--the Caverns are AWESOME! We spent 3 hours walking the 1.25 mile path around the "Big Room." The room is 800 feet below the surface and is 8.2 acres in size . Temperature was 59° a relief from the 111° above ground. A Broadway lighting "tech" did the elaborate light design which is impressive. Brian Lewis https://gordonhallberg.com/blog/2014/10/brian-lewis Fri and Sat, Oct 10 and 11, Brian Lewis was the guest of String and Friends to give masterclasses and concert. It was an exciting time for all! Brian is such an energetic and entertaining presence. And his playing is world class. It was so interesting to sit among the students who were listening with such intensity as he played CLASSICAL music! His working with the kids was a highlight. He communicates so effectively and covers topics of value to all students regardless of level. Folks commented his concert was our best yet!
